2. Felipe's Leg Amputation (Cannibal Holocaust, 1980)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we1wpiXnCuM Ruggero Deodato's 1980 pseudo documentary languished for years on the video nasties list and with good reason. It is one of the sickest, most disturbing films you are ever likely to see and is still unavailable without any cuts. Amongst the visual nastiness within the film include seven (six on screen) scenes in which live animals are killed, the impaling of a young woman (which was investigated as real), sexual violence and cannibalism. But the scene that interests us most for this feature is the moment when the crew are 'forced' to amputate the leg of their guide Felipe after he is bitten by a snake. Although the crew are apprehensive about removing the leg the look of delight on their faces suggests otherwise and leads us to believe they have truly been pushed over the edge. The idea of who is civilised and who is not is really pushed to the edge. There's no wonder Deodato and his team received suspended sentences when the film came to light.
