5 Ways To Make A Stand-Alone Venom Movie Work

1. Keep Spider-Man And Venom Separate

8-Venom-cropped-600x300 While I do think that a stand alone Venom film would benefit from being a part of The Amazing Spider-Man Universe, I think it is imperative that the two stay largely separate from one another. The Flash Thompson run works best when it is dealing with Venom as his own character, not an antagonist to Spider-Man. Keeping the two separate is important for Venom to become his own brand big enough to support its own franchise. Flash Thompson's story is big enough to sustain its own telling, and it deals with so many issues that Spider-Man would just further complicate things. That isn't to say that Spider-Man's presence couldn't be felt at all. In the comic, Peter Parker plays a key part in Flash's story and there is no reason why Andrew Garfield couldn't turn up for a quick cameo without his costume. Even having Spiderman's presence in the world could help add a facet to Flash's character, wrestling with the hero he never can become as Venom. A Venom movie should be that, a movie featuring Venom. Overshadowing him in his own movie with his more famous cousin could end up suffocating it. While the film should absolutely acknowledge the world it is in, it shouldn't be shoved down our throats. The two meeting up in costume could happen somewhere down the line, but it feels as if that should take place in one of Spidey's movies and after Venom has established himself.
