5 Ways To Make A Stand-Alone Venom Movie Work

2. Make Symbiotes The Main Antagonists

tumblr_m86uwqtRB71rzkpe3o1_500 This is where we bring back Eddie Brock into the fold. If you have followed the comic book continuity, you would know that even though Flash Thompson is the current Venom, Eddie Brock was far from over with the symbiote. In fact, Brock took on his own identity when his white blood cells merged with remnants of the remaining venom symbiote in his blood. This created the Anti-Venom, giving Brock healing powers and acts as an antidote to the Venom symbiote. While Anti-Venom is largely a good character, his motives are a little skewy sometimes. Anti-Venom and Flash's Venom have come to blows multiple times in the current run and seeing their fights come to life on screen could be really great. Brock is a converted Christian and uses his powers to heal the sick of their aliments at his church. However, in his spare time, Brock comes to hate the symbiote so much that he goes around trying to murder every symbiote currently running around New York, which of course leaves him bashing heads with Flash often enough. This could open up an interesting narrative perspective as the protagonist is using an evil suit for the powers of good, while the antagonist is using his suit good suit to kill people. There is plenty of dramatic material inherent in that conflict which could play on themes of good, evil and the greyness of the world. After you deal with Anti-Venom, if the movie spawned sequels, then of course you could move onto other symbiotes like Toxin, Lasher, Scream, and well of course, Carnage. Having an over arching villain through the franchise in the Task Master and you got a solid franchise.
