5 Words That Need To Be Dropped From The Geek Lexicon

5. Realistic

According to the Encarta Dictionary: English (North America), realistic is defined as simulating real things or imaginary things in a way that seems real. I agree with that definition because I know how hyped a fan can be when he thinks about worlds where wizards and superheroes can be credibly depicted on television or a movie screen or even, technology willing, in our drably ordinary world one day. Nothing wrong with using realistic, just again it€™s overused when words like truthful, accurate, authentic can be used just as easily. Realistic though is a tricky expression to use when it deals with fantasy or sci-fi especially in superhero discussions when one character€™s powers are described as being more €œrealistic€ than another€™s. C€™mon, man. The Incredible Hulk is more €œrealistic€ than Superman because one gets his strength because of rage while the other from the sun? Better words for a debate like that would be plausible or even appealing because that€™s what a pissing contest between fans of a fictional character comes down to; how much you like him not how he would fit into the quote unquote real world.

A pop culture geek since the days Christopher Reeve taught the world a man could fly, KISS was in make-up, and V'Ger almost destroyed the earth so I have what I consider a wealth of knowledge and insight on where our culture comes from, where it is now, and where it can go in the future. If you agree or disagree that's what the comments section is for and we can talk about it. Leggo! PS.
