4. Mrs. Doubtfire - Meat, And Where Not To Buy It
I have extolled my love for this Robin Williams classic in previous articles, but it never hurts to revisit it. This movie have us the most on-the-nose use of music ever with Aerosmith's Dude Looks Like A Lady (he really does), and gave us a pre-Bond Brosnan in all his hairy glory. Kids will love any movie that involves men dressing as women and putting on funny voices. It's just a fact. That's why pantomimes are so popular here in Blighty. (Exception to this rule: Do not show your children The Rocky Horror Picture Show) Now in the scene where Daniel Hillard is at his brother's salon trying on various outfits, he tries one that makes him act like a little Yiddish lady. He then says, "I should never buy gribenes from a mohel. It's so chewy." Now for you non-Yiddish folks out there I shall translate. Gribenes is a kosher dish of chicken or goose skin cracklings served with fried onions (yum). A mohel is a man who performs circumcisions (Not-so-yum). The translated sentence then: I should never buy my skin cracklings from the gentlemen who performs the dick-skin-cutting ceremony. The dish is always so tough. Enjoy your dinners gang!
