The Hulk has been notoriously tricky to get right on the big screen, but thanks to his enduring popularity as a character plenty of people have tried. Before Ang Lee took his turn at making a Hulk movie, there was another version in development in the late '90s - and it would have made Lee's mutant puppies look totally sensible. Prepped by director Jonathan Hensleigh, producers Avi Arad and Gale Anne Hurd began working on a live-action movie about the character. The screenplay went through several drafts with several different writers, and at various points featured the Hulk battling terrorists, the military, Brian Banner, and convict insect men. Unfortunately (or fortunately, more likely), the movie studio got cold feet and pulled the plug on Hensleighs version. But a few years later, Lee came aboard to try his hand at the character and delivered a film that critics seemed to enjoy but nearly every Marvel fan just didn't get.
