50 Comic Book Movies That Almost Got Made

22. Bryan Singer€™s X-Men 3

Speaking of Bryan Singer, let's never forget that in order for the director to helm Superman Returns he had to walk away from another widely popular superhero franchise, X-Men. Singer (director of the first two X-Men films) indeed opted not to direct the third and instead decided to take his talents to Metropolis. What audience's ultimately got was X-Men: The Last Stand directed by Brett Ratner, which many fans will cite as the worst film of the franchise. While the film wasn't without its merit it was far from what likely would have been produced if Singer had stayed aboard. In Singer€™s version (according to screenwriter Mike Dougherty) Cyclops doesn't die, he goes on to become a great leader. The Phoenix character wouldn€™t have been resigned to standing around and staring blankly in a red dress the entire time. And overall, things would have made much more sense.
