Another director who tried his hand at filming the supposedly "unfilmable" Watchman was Paul Greengrass. In 2005, shortly after breaking into the mainstream with The Bourne Supremacy, the director indeed almost had a shot at bringing the beloved graphic novel to life. Written by X-Men scribe David Hayter, the script was much less of a slave to the source material than Zack Snyder's final film. Sets were being constructed in London, Greengrass was looking into casting prospects - Jude Law as Ozymandias, for example - and then the studio pulled the plug. They reportedly simply didn't get what the director was attempting to do. Greengrass' vision would have been an interesting sight to see, for sure, especially in its treatment of Rorschach and his investigation into The Comedian's murder. Perhaps the movie could have even rivaled Snyder's visually-inspired take of the material.
