Before she was portrayed by Jennifer Garner in 2003's Daredevil, Natural Born Killers and JFK director Oliver Stone was interested in bringing Elektra to the big screen for quite some time. Reports pointed toward Stone being attached to the project as early as 1992 and even revealed the film would have been titled Elektra: Assassin. Frank Millers Elektra: Assassin series (of which the film would have been based on) is an over-the-top satire of a number of things, including right-wing politics, violent media, and any number of comic-book clichés which would have made the idea of Oliver Stone bringing the project to life on the big screen both fitting and genuinely exciting. Eventually the film was killed, not because of Stone's lack of enthusiasm for the project, but because Elektra was eventually bundled up and sold to a studio who lacked the same eagerness.
