50 Greatest Horror Movies Of The 21st Century

2. Get Out

Get Out Daniel Kaluuya
Universal

Plot: A young African American (Daniel Kaluuya) goes to stay with his white girlfriend's (Allison Williams) well-off family, and realizes things are not what they seem.

It would be pretty crazy to make a list like this that didn't have Get Out in the top 20 at least, and there's a good reason for that. Simply put, Jordan Peele's debut is a monolithic horror masterpiece that only seems to get better and better with every revisit.

Get Out is... like an onion. It has layers upon layers of meaning and symbolism, and you'll literally notice new things every time you watch it. It's as rich and textured as a great novel, and while most great horror films draw back the curtain and shine a light on the darkest aspects of human nature, very few films do it as ingeniously as Get Out does it.

Better still, the film is also terrifyingly suspenseful, darkly hilarious, beautifully shot and filled with unforgettable characters, including some of the best film villains of the last 20 years. It's a near-perfect piece of cinema that reaches heights few other horror movies ever reach, and by far and away it was the finest horror film of the 2010s.

So, what's number one?
