50 Greatest James Bond Moments Of All Time

29. The World Is Not Enough: Torture Scene

The Spy Who Loved Me
MGM

The best scene from The World is Not Enough, this might be a quieter moment but it manages to overshadow all the explosive stuff that fills the rest of the movie.

Elektra King (Sophie Marceau) torturing Bond with a chair that is slowly breaking his neck is a tripwire-tense and psychologically fascinating scene that is hugely enhanced by Sophie Marceau's sublime performance and some wonderful dialogue.

This scene really reaffirms Elektra King as one of the best Bond villains of all time and puts Bond through the wringer like few other Bond scenes did (prior to the Craig films, anyway). It also serves as another reminder that, while James Bond is a PG-13 franchise, it does have a surprising knack for good torture scenes.
