50 Greatest James Bond Moments Of All Time

18. You Only Live Twice: Volcano Battle

The Spy Who Loved Me
United Artists

This particular ending is so good that not even its links to Austin Powers, that insufferable Bond spoof (which heavily references You Only Live Twice), can cast a shadow over it. You Only Live Twice's finale is not only absolutely iconic, but it's also completely and utterly brilliant.

Bond tries to get Blofeld's rocket to self-destruct while an absolutely insane battle rages between the Japanese secret service - who are all dressed as ninjas - and Blofeld's minions... and this all takes place in the most iconic Bond villain lair of them all.

That is the absolutely mind-blowing volcano set, designed by Ken Adams, and this stunning location makes what is already a deliciously entertaining and beautifully choreographed finale even better.

Like many of the best moments in the older James Bond films, it's ridiculous in the very best sense of the word and one of the most joyous, most entertaining, most creative and overall best endings to any Bond film.
