50 Greatest Movie Villains Of The 21st Century

50. Sir David Ershon €“ The Other Guys

Starting off light, my first five choices are all fairly easy-going villains in comparison to what is to come. Sir David Ershon is quite probably the most boring, uninteresting villain to ever grace such an excellent film, and this is precisely why he belongs on this list. The Other Guys is probably one of my favourite parodies of all time because of the way it portrays police work as...actually pretty dull. It then juxtapositions this with some ridiculous action. Ershon is a perfect example of this realistic modern villain. His crimes: association with dodgy scaffolding permits and manipulating the police pension. Brilliant!

49. Russ Cargill €“ The Simpsons Movie

Russ Cargill is a typical villain for The Simpsons. He has a fairly noble motive, but a downright insane plan of action. He is comically psychotic and surprisingly easy to defeat by the film€™s end. Cargill has that snarky, self-important talk show host manner that villains in The Simpsons canon have been modeled from ever since Frank Grimes showed us that smart guys can actually be pretty stupid. He is also voiced by the excellent Albert Brooks, who has played a variety of memorable Simpsons characters (most notably, Hank Scorpio). He is a perfect villain for the show€™s film adaptation.

48. Davy Jones €“ Pirates of the Caribbean Series

Davy Jones is a creepy representation of death. Probably one of the best things about the first two sequels in this now wilting franchise was Bill Nighy€™s performance as this aging monster. Davy Jones plays a vital role in the second film, hunting down the ever elusive Jack Sparrow. Unfortunately, he becomes largely unimportant by the climax of the third. Nonetheless, his creepy design and manner was a nice addition to the franchise, even if the series was already on its last legs.
