50 Greatest Musical Numbers In Film History

30. Please, Mr Jailer - Cry-Baby

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T--XIWND6k If there's one thing that can be taken away from Cry-Baby, it's that John Waters sure knows how to stage one hell of a wild ride. The plot line of Cry-Baby is simple, it's one that audiences have been hearing for generations. It's the story of a bad boy (in this film, they're called Drakes, and the main one is played by Johnny Depp) who falls in love with a square named Allison, and people have beef with their relationship, but it's so strong that it weathers the storm. So it's definitely not anything new, but it features such an absurd sense of humor and an affection for 1950s teen tropes that it's endearing all the same. In this scene, Johnny Depp is in prison and Allison has sexed herself up to convince the jailers to let him out. And it's pretty awesome. That's really all there is to it.

29. Roxanne - Moulin Rouge

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZvLcRUCtMA Moulin Rouge doesn€™t have a ton of original material to work with. The songs are all modified versions of pop hits and musical standards, and the story is one that audiences have heard a hundred times over. So without fresh new ideas, their only real hope is to be insanely clever in their reimagining of songs that are already famous. For the most part, they succeed. But the real shining jewel in the film is how they treat Roxanne by The Police. Did anyone ever consider the idea that Roxanne could be transformed into the backdrop for a stunning tango number? It€™s the biggest and most welcome surprise of the film, and one that is a tremendous amount of fun to watch.
