Were you really expecting anything else? The moment when Darth Vader reveals to a defeated Luke that he is his father is the pivotal scene in the entire Star War series. It was also the most unexpected twist in cinematic history, and is probably still the best twist ever.

In a genius move, George Lucas actually kept this secret quiet until the release of the film. Even though he knew the relationship between Luke and Vader, he kept it a closely guarded between himself and only a couple of other people. Not even the actors knew and were blown away on the night of the premiere. While that moment played across the screen, the actor who played Vader, David Prowse, turned to Lucas and said: "Why didn't you tell me? I would have played that entirely different!"
