With remakes of popular films, there will always come a certain expectation regarding well-known and beloved characters. The other side of that coin is that such projects almost always make changes from the original that end up pissing fans off, and you just have to hope your favourite character can avoid it.

With 2025's live-action Lilo and Stitch, there was a lot changed, and not too much of it was received particularly well. The ending was significantly different, as was the role of Cobra Bubbles, while Experiment 626's creator Jumba was ultimately turned into the villain he never truly was in the original.

At the beginning of the film, the character actually looks very similar to his alien form from 2002, however due to budgetary reasons, both Jumba and Pleakley were given human forms for the bulk of the story to mixed results.

While Billy Magnussen didn't do a bad job of bringing a human version of Pleakley to life, Galifianakis may as well have portrayed a completely original character. There was nothing reminiscent of Jumba in his performance, and from the accent to his mannerisms, to call this character Jumba was a disrespect to Jumba.
