50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2017 - Ranked
16. T2: Trainspotting
Of all of the projects Danny Boyle could have tackled next, a sequel to iconic Brit-flick Trainspotting can't have ranked too highly with even the most informed projectors before it was announced. There had been rumblings for years of an adaptation of Porno - Irvine Welsh's explosive sequel to the book - but Boyle seemed to be moving on to bigger, more Oscar-worthy projects.
Still, you shouldn't complain that he's gone back to take up the story of Renton and Co, or that Ewan McGregor, Johnny Lee Miller, Ewan Bremner and Robert Carlyle have been drawn back in either. Because there's definitely a story to tell there, and the trailer has already proved how welcome the return feels.
Belated sequels haven't gone down too well recently, but T2 looks like it isn't seeking to update and reinvent as some of its fellows did erroneously. And equally, it does look like Renton's return will avoid "trashing the legacy" of its predecessor and add a whole new, emotionally loaded string to the narrative, which seems to have been top of the agenda when it was optioned.
