For some people, the biggest draw of Dunkirk is that One Direction's mop-haired, premature Mick Jagger reincarnation Harry Styles' acting debut. That should be good enough for a couple of hundred million dollars in itself, but more importantly, it's also Christopher Nolan's next movie.

With his typical attention to detail and accuracy, Nolan has built a production that is authentic to the smallest detail, and though little footage has been seen so far, you can guarantee that his take on one of the darkest days in European military history will be an unflinching, humanist account wrought with emotion.

Inevitably, Nolan has been able to call on a brilliant cast, with Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy and Kenneth Branagh all in key roles, and it's likely that the scale of his sets will also make them characters in their own respect too. And scale is key: Nolan knows how to make statements and how to capture spectacle, and in many ways he's perfectly suited to making a giant war epic, as already suggested by the brief teaser trailer.
