Given that Hollywood loves to eat itself, it should have come as no surprise when Andy Serkis' live-action Jungle Book project came to be around the time Disney did the same thing with Jon Favreau. Somewhat wisely, Warner Bros decided not to try and directly compete with the House Of Mouse and shifted Serkis' version back and 2018 is where it finally settled.

Telling the story of Mowgli - now the titular star after a rethink - the film features a hugely talented cast (with Benedict Cumberbatch, Serkis, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett among the animal voices) and has the strong foundation of a beloved story.

Inevitably, it's going to draw direct comparisons with Favreau's hugely lucrative version (though that might give it a marketing boost) and we can only hope that it fares slightly better than Serkis' directorial debut Breathe.
