You should know what to expect from Roland Emmerich movies by now and his work isn't for everyone, but he knows - just as Michael Bay does - how to put together spectacular action sequences. So seeing him turn his hand to one of the key battles of World War II - at Midway - is definitely an exciting prospect.

Alongside the compelling subject matter, which will chart the June 1942 sea battle between American and Japanese forces, Emmerich can count on a richly talented cast featuring the likes of Patrick Wilson, Aaron Eckhart, Woody Harrelson, Mandy Moore, Luke Wilson, Dennis Quaid and Nick Jonas. So something for everyone, basically.

Maybe don't expect a cerebral experience, but it'll certainly cater to historical action fans. And that's, HUH, what war is good for.
