50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2023
34. Wonka
It's incredibly easy to scoff at the idea of Timothée Chalamet playing Willy Wonka in a new musical prequel - after all, it sounds like something a studio algorithm would come up with.
But given that Wonka is being co-written and directed by Paddington's Paul King, it's much easier to take the project seriously as something that could, you know, actually be good.
Chalamet will be joined by Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Matt Lucas, Olivia Colman, and Rowan Atkinson, making for quite the distinguished cast indeed.
Early word from test screenings has been uniformly positive, too, so don't be surprised if this is one of the biggest hits of 2023's holiday season.
Wonka releases on December 15.
33. Shazam! Fury Of The Gods
Though some of the wind has undeniably been taken out of its sails by the recent reshufflings going on at Warner Bros. - likely suggesting this will be the final Shazam! film - Shazam! Fury of the Gods nevertheless looks like a ton of fun.
Basically everybody is back for this sequel which also throws Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler into the mix as Atlas' daughters, who seemingly have an axe to grind with Shazam (Zachary Levi).
The goofy fun and warm-hearted familial vibes of the first Shazam! made it feel like such a breath of fresh air amid the grim DCEU, and there's no reason to expect anything different from this follow-up.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods releases on March 17.
