Adam Sandler looks set to continue his run of intriguing left-field dramas for Netflix with Spaceman, an adaptation of Jaroslav Kalfař's 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia.

Sandler will play Jakub Procházka, a Czech astronaut who embarks on a solo mission to space to investigate a cloud of dust near Venus.

With Chernobyl's Johan Renck directing, and Sandler starring opposite Paul Dano, Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, and the illustrious Isabella Rossellini, this could be something very special indeed.

Shooting wrapped around 18 months ago, so we're likely no more than a few months away from seeing it for ourselves.

Spaceman releases on Netflix sometime in 2023.

19. The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Though video game movies have been improving in recent years, we're still waiting for the first truly great one. And whether or not The Super Mario Bros. Movie is it, it absolutely looks like a ton of fun.

First and foremost, the marketing makes it clear beyond any doubt that Illumination has nailed the aesthetic of the Mario games - this is easily the most gorgeous looking thing the studio has ever produced.

The voice cast is certainly divisive - at least where Chris Pratt's Mario is concerned - but the decision to give Mario a more typical speaking voice makes sense within the context of a 90-minute film.

Otherwise, this is ticking all the boxes so far, and if it's at least pretty good has the potential to be one of the year's big breakout box office hits.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie releases on March 31 in the UK and April 7 in the US.
