50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2023

38. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley

Beverly Hills Cop Eddie Murphy
Paramount

A fourth Beverly Hills Cop film has been in development for almost 30 years at this point, enough that most fans had largely given up on it, especially after how truly woeful the third entry was.

But after an attempt at a TV series was thrown in the bin, Netflix has come to the rescue with the recently shot Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, which reunites Eddie Murphy with a number of the series' original stars - namely Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, John Ashton, and Bronson Pinchot.

The new cast isn't too shabby either, counting the likes of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon among its number.

Though it's always sensible to keep your expectations low where belated comedy sequels are concerned - especially with a first-time feature director at the helm - the world has been desperately craving more R-rated Eddie Murphy shenanigans.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley releases on Netflix sometime in 2023.

37. Maestro

Maestro Bradley Cooper
Netflix

Bradley Cooper is very clearly gunning for an Oscar win with his latest prestige project, Maestro. Cooper will direct, produce, write, and star in this biopic of legendary conductor-composer Leonard Bernstein, co-penned by Oscar-winning writer Josh Singer (Spotlight).

First look images have shown off Cooper's frankly astonishingly physical transformation into an older Bernstein, though it of course remains to be seen if he can also nail the voice and mannerisms of an older man.

Cooper's cast meanwhile includes Carey Mulligan, Jeremy Strong, Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, and Sarah Silverman.

With the trio of Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Todd Phillips producing alongside Cooper, Netflix is clearly going to be pushing this one for all the Academy Awards.

Maestro releases on Netflix sometime in 2023.
