50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2023

40. Civil War

Just a year after he birthed his utterly bewildering and extremely divisive Men into the world, Alex Garland returns with the action drama Civil War.

Nothing is known about the story, an original idea by Garland, though he has called it "a sci-fi allegory for our currently polarised predicament" while considering it a companion piece to Men.

The cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Narcos' Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Cailee Spaeny, and given Garland's mesmerising prior offerings, it's easy to have faith that Civil War will be another unforgettable slice of genre goodness.

Curiously, though, Garland has claimed this will be the last film he directs, as he wishes to focus more on writing films in the future. Hopefully he'll go out with a banger.

Civil War releases sometime in 2023.

39. Infinity Pool

Brandon Cronenberg's third feature, following up his incredible 2020 horror Possessor, is a sci-fi thriller in which a wealthy couple (Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth) vacation at an all-inclusive island resort, only for a fatal accident to reveal the horrors percolating underneath.

Brandon Cronenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, and Mia Goth - that's quite the triumvirate of talent, and going by the totally wild, kaleidoscopic first trailer, this should be another deeply twisted, memorably effed-up offering from Cronenberg Jr.

If you're one to complain about the lack of original films releasing in cinemas these days, here's something worth giving your business to.

Infinity Pool releases on January 27.
