6 Actors Who Nearly Died Filming 2014's Biggest Movies

2. Jennifer Lawrence Nearly Choked To Death Filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

The teen-friendly rating tends to mean its pretty bloodless, but The Hunger Games films are actually rather brutal prospects. The none-more-grim dystopian plotline involves a future society which suffers an intense division between socioeconomic classes, with the rich living in opulence and the poor barely living. The annual competition pays "tribute" to the ruling class by pitting teenagers from the underclass against each other in a battle...to the death. It's a satire, you see? A grim, grim satire. Thankfully the set doesn't look to be anywhere as downbeat as the films themselves, with perpetual charm machine Jennifer Lawrence playing the series protagonist Katniss Everdeen. Whilst her character may be conflicted and brooding Lawrence could bring sunshine to a solar eclipse, which makes it all the more terrifying that she very nearly died on the set of Mockingjay, the final film in the Hunger Games trilogy. Not that any one person's near death experience is worse than another, but we would be pretty bummed if J-Law (ironically) died making such a violent film. Apparently she nearly choked to death on fumes emitted by a fog machine on the Atlanta, Georgia set. That's not an exaggeration, by the way, with onlookers describing the incident as "horrifying", bringing filming to a standstill for a while. Due to a malfunction the tunnel filming was taking place in completely filled with smoke to the point the actor couldn't actually breathe, with the amount of smoke making it difficult for the concerned crew to actually find Lawrence. Find her they did, though. Which is good because they still have Mockingjay - Part 2 to film...
