6 Behind-The-Scenes Documentaries That Show Why Films Went Wrong
2. Short Film Reveals Why Fantastic Four Was Doomed
Doomed is an apt way to describe the plight of Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot before it was even released, but it's actually the title of a documentary about another failed attempt to do justice to Marvel's first family on screen.
Marty Langford's Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s The Fantastic Four is exactly what it says on the tin.
The film chronicles low-budget filmmaker Corman’s attempts to bring Reed Richards, Sue Storm, The Thing and The Human Torch to the big screen on a shoestring budget, and he got a lot further than you might think.
The entire film was shot, edited and ready to go until, as detailed in the documentary, Marvel executive Avi Arad purchased every copy and ordered for them to be destroyed, apparently, without ever watching it.
Seemingly, Arad was concerned that Corman’s film might damaged the Fantastic Four brand, had it been allowed to see the light of day. One might ague that the Josh Trank version did that better than its 1994 predecessor ever could.
