2. Cyrus (2010)
What could be funnier than John C. Reilly having to compete for the attention of his girlfriend with her son, played by Jonah Hill? A lot, apparently. The trailer promised some hilarious turns with Jonah Hill as an exaggerated momma's boy and John C. Reilly as a slightly bumbling divorced man looking to get back on the scene. The problem is nothing funny happens. Worse than that, the harsh truths about divorce and about being a single parent end up being at the forefront of the film's action and dialogue. Chuckle rating = 0/10. Instead of laughing, we're forced to watch John C. Reilly struggling with the sadness of a break-up, Marisa Tomei dealing with her weird son, and Jonah Hill exhibiting some serious mother-issues that are far more harrowing than they are funny, and only really serve to point to him as a future sociopath. Who said that family trouble wasn't funny? Everyone. Everyone said that.
