3. The Weather Man (2005)
Nic Cage isn't very funny, but could he be if he played a kooky weather man that people threw stuff at for no reason? That's just what he did and - guess what? - it wasn't funny at all. Again, this is a case where the main character is simply unhappy rather than comically inept at life: he's divorced, his kids hate him, and people throw food at him just because he's on TV (seriously, it isn't as funny as it sounds - it's just sad). The whole thing gets weird as well as depressing when he decides to use a bow and arrow to solve his problems (not in that way... just by shooting targets in the park, though that still is strange). Things only get worse after that: his father dies, his son gets touched up, and Nick does some alone drinking. When do the laughs come? Never. They never come. Apart from the fact he gets a slightly better job at the end, none of the other things really get solved, meaning that you leave feeling like life might not be worth the trouble.
