4. A Most Wanted Man
Written by John le Carré, the man behind Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, A Most Wanted Man sees a Russian who calls himself Issa smuggled into Hamburg where he then claims that he wishes to become a doctor. He seeks help from Civil Rights Lawyer Annabel to prevent him from being deported, but all is not what as it seems (as in pretty much all le Carré novels) with both British and German Intelligence searching for the man for different reasons. In a similar fashion to the 2011 film adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, this film sees a number of top names playing supporting roles. Though the central role is played by the relatively unknown Russian actor Grigoriy Dobrygin, supporting roles being played by Rachel McAdams, William Dafoe, and the one and only Philip Seymour Hoffman should give an indication of the level of performance you can expect from this film. If you haven't seen The Master yet go and do so now, as I guarantee that you will then be excited by this film and Philip Seymour Hoffman's involvement in it. Though no doubt this will be a head-ache inducing film that ends with the audience looking at each other blankly, it is likely that after multiple viewings (and with a little help from Wikipedia) the plot will start to fit together, allowing this film to reveal itself as a powerful piece of cinema worthy of award nominations and critical acclaim.
