6 Films Based On Books To Get Excited About In 2014

3. The Monuments Men

The Monuments Men, unlike the other films on this list, comes from a non-fictional book. Written by Robert M. Edsel, this is the story of an Allied Platoon whose sole purpose is to recover as many monuments or pieces of art that have been stolen by Hitler as possible during the Second World War. There is a lot to be excited about with this film. Firstly and most importantly, there is George Clooney. Not only does he star in the film, but it is also written and directed by him, his first solo effort since his 2011 film The Ides of March. Since then he has been seen acting in Oscar nominated The Descendants and Gravity, as well as producing Oscar winner Argo. As an understatement you could say he has been a little bit busy. And if George Clooney's involvement isn't enough to get you excited (even though it really should be) then take a look at the rest of the cast: Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman, and even Britain's very own Hugh Bonneville to name but a few. Like Inglourious Basterds this looks set to be a more quirky and entertaining war film, so don't be expecting Schindler's List 2.0. From the trailer and the cast this film looks like the spawn of Wes Anderson and the Coen brothers, which certainly isn't a bad thing. Ah, George Clooney, is there anything that man can't do...
