This one isn't as juicy as the other rumours on our list, sure, but it's an interesting bit of news that could tell us what future Star Wars movies are going for visually.

In October 2020, Scottish news site Daily Record reported that a Star Wars film crew was set to visit the Highlands to conduct three days of shooting. The site also mentions that this shoot was for Taika Waititi's upcoming movie, although that seems to be nothing more than an assumption on their part.

Here's what the Daily Record's source told them:

“It’s great that Star Wars have decided to use Scotland’s breathtaking scenery for some of their first production shots. Filming will take place in the Highlands and will focus on the hills and surrounding areas. It will likely be a small crew and an assistant director heading to Scotland to film over three days."

It's important to point out that, if this is true, then it doesn't mean that principal photography has started - it's way too early for that. Rather, this sounds like it could be a bit of location scouting, with a small team feeding back footage to the director, allowing the crew to get a sense of what the film's visual identity could be.

As for the Scottish Highlands, there's some truly beautiful scenery up there, with lots of hills, snow-tipped peaks, lochs, and a vibe that feels very epic and mythical, the perfect place to use as a backdrop for a Star Wars planet.
