6 Infamous Feuds That Almost Derailed Classic Movies

2. Dancer In The Dark €“ Lars von Trier Vs. Bjork

Nn

Premiere magazine named Dancer in the Dark as one of the 25 Most Dangerous Movies of all time. If you were on set to witness director Lars von Trier going at it with lead actress Bjork, you might agree with that. The controversial co-founder of the Dogme 95 movement found the first-time actress to be surprisingly adversarial. The Icelandic singer was 24 hours late to their very first meeting. Why? Because she absolute HAD to attend a last-minute party on a Greek island, that she arrived at via private jet. At one point during filming, she disappeared for about four days (some reports say three) and came back apparently demanding creative control of the film's music. However, the one act that took von Trier most by surprise was when Bjork showed up to work one day, and rather than say "hello", she spat at him. Bjork hasn't made many comments about the feud after the fact, but she does have at least one good shot at von Trier floating around the internet: "He needs a female to provide his work soul. And he envies them and hates them for it. So he has to destroy them during the filming. And hide the evidence." In an interview with GQ, von Trier said of Bjork: "...we knew that her and her people would always win because they didn't care. They didn't give a sh*t...It was like dealing with terrorists.€
