6 More Overlooked Films of the 2000s

6. Catch Me If You Can

Yes, Steven Spielberg directed this movie. And yes, that makes it seem pretty ridiculous that it's on this list. But for a film directed by the 'Berg and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, this has fallen into the cracks over the years. Catch Me if You Can isn't the type of movie Steven Spielberg normally directs. There's no big action scenes or heartwarming sentimentally, just a breezy story that's a ton of fun to watch. Catch Me if You Can is the true story of how Frank Abagnale Jr. conned his way through America, with FBI Bank Fraud agent Carl Hanratty following suit. Both DiCaprio and Hanks are delightful in their roles, and Spielberg seems to enjoy directing such a small movie. But I think the fact that this movie wasn't anything revelatory or special led to it's dismissal in its following years. This movie could have been directed by anyone, but since it was directed by Spielberg, people probably expected more. But even though this movie doesn't feature anything major, it's still one of my favorites. John Williams composed a great score that is unlike anything he'd done before. The movie also features one of the best title sequences in recent years. Catch it if you can.

Jeremy Sollie hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
