5. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
This film is a classic and even to this day remains as great as ever and though it doesn't need any changing in its current form, that isn't to say that it wouldn't at least be interesting though different, if Butch and Sundance had formed a romantic relationship, much like Jack and Ennis in Brokeback Mountain. The relationship they both kind of share with Katherine Ross is alright, but she never gets the time in the film to be truly interesting, as the film spends most of its time focused on the two wonderful male leads. But even the fact that they almost share a girlfriend in the film suggests some sort of threesome dynamic, and I for one would have found this element, especially in a film from the 60s, very brave and very engrossing, no matter how unlikely it would have been. Like the male version of Thelma and Louise (a film with many lesbian connotations) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid would at least be interesting if their bromance was turned into a romance, and if the film was ever remade or re-imagined, this certainly could be one of many ways to go about it. The drama would be heightened to much more intense levels at the end had you known that the two were in love with each other (in my opinion any way) and a film with a gay storyline set in the past would be fascinating to see in a different political climate. Like I said before, this film is great and portrays one of the greatest bromances on film- but a gay re-imagining could be truly fascinating.
