Star Wars has another case of a character just being too charismatic to be killed off thanks to Oscar Isaac's ace pilot Poe Dameron. He's essentially the cocky heir to Han Solo's throne, so it's interesting to note that he was destined to follow him to an early grave in the original script.

When he opened The Force Awakens and then crashed into the desert, he was supposed to die in something of a rug-pull that JJ Abrams had also planned with Jack on Lost initially. Clearly he had a thing for shocking openings as Isaac revealed to GQ:

“He’s amazing!” said Abrams.“Sounds good!” thought Isaac, whose first experience in a movie theater had been seeing The Empire Strikes Back.“He opens the whole movie!” said Abrams.“Sounds great!” thought Isaac.“And then,” Abrams went on. “He dies.”“Oh,” thought Isaac.“I’d done that before... Set up the plot for the main guy and then die spectacularly.”

Isaac didn't want to sign on to another film that he died early in (after the Bourne Legacy) and Abrams came to the realisation that Dameron was actually good enough to keep around. He perhaps could do with a little more to do in the next movie, but at least he's made it this far at all.

Which of these characters do you think should have died? Share your picks below in the comments thread.
