6 Movies & TV Shows That Stole From Lesser-Seen Cult Classics

4. Riverdale Is Teen Bop Twin Peaks

Riverdale debuted a couple years ago when we were still trying to figure out whether it was cool to do gritty versions of stuff. We decided it wasn’t, but Riverdale still persists thanks to a large teen fan base. It is a dark take on the classic Archie comics. Critics keep calling it original, which is weird for a show based on an already established comic strip. It is also weird because we already had a version of this show in the 90s called Twin Peaks.

Riverdale lifts entire plot points from Twin Peaks. The events of both shows' first seasons start off with the discovery of a blue-tinted murder victim floating in a body of water. In the second season of Riverdale, a mirror plays a huge role in hinting at the identity of the killer just like in Twin Peaks.

Characters in both shows have a dream/hallucination of the murderer lunging over a couch towards them. In Riverdale, it is revealed that murder victim Jason Blossom's father is his killer, just as Laura's father is the killer in Twin Peaks. Even the opening credits of Riverdale feels like the opening credits of Twin Peaks.

If you are still not convinced, here is a collection of gifs highlighting the uncanny similarities between the two shows.
