4. Gangster Squad

gangstersquad600 A group of police officers must band together and fight back against Chicago mobster Mickey Cohen and his wave of corruption in order to save Los Angeles. - The Traditional Hero €“ John O€™ Mara (Josh Brolin) - The Scene Chewing Villain €“ Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) - The Foil €“ Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling) - Dire scenario €“ Mobsters are slowly taking control of L.A. Violence is on the streets and there is corruption everywhere. Most of the cops seem to get paid off by the mob and no one is stepping up to take action. That is, until John O€™ Mara is tasked with putting together the Gangster squad. - Getting the Crew Together €“ O€™ Mara traverses the many different locales of Los Angeles and meets with the different soon-to-be members of his squad. Each meeting is a brief introduction into that character. - The First Victory €“ The car chase that eventually leads the squad to destroy a sizable amount of Mickey Cohen€™s heroin shipments. - The Failure Mission €“ The Chinatown sting. Mickey€™s things find the listening device they planted in his house. To retaliate, the mob feeds the squad false information and sets them up for an ambush in Chinatown. The gangster squad falls into the trap and are attacked. In the resulting gunfight, O€™ Mara is nearly killed by an explosion and another member of the squad takes a gunshot wound to the shoulder. They all barely escape, but that isn€™t their greatest loss. - The Sacrificial Lamb €“ Conwell Keeler. Mickey Cohen€™s top lieutenant infiltrates the Gangster Squad€™s base of operations and kills Keeler while the rest of the squad is ambushed in Chinatown. O€™ Mara is appropriately pissed and swears to go after Cohen once and for all. Not letting Keeler die in vain is his main reason he doesn€™t give up his badge and just retire prematurely. The rest of his guys follow suit. - The Final Battle €“ The Park Plaza Hotel shootout. The gangster squad has been dissolved, and the department wants O€™ Mara€™s badge. Mickey Cohen looks like he€™s gonna get away. Not on O€™ Mara€™s watch. Armed with their admirable sense of justice and several Tommy guns, the remaining gangster squad descends upon the Park Plaza Hotel, where Mickey Cohen is hiding out. An intense gun battle ensues, culminating in O€™ Mara and Cohen facing off hand to hand. As you can guess, the good guys prevail and justice is served.
