6 Shocking Signs Batman V Superman Could Actually Be Good

6. The Joker's Impact On Batman

No, this isn't the point where I suddenly declare Jared Leto's Joker is going to be great. I think he certainly sounds better than he looks (good God those tattoos), but he's got a hard battle ahead of him if he's even going to come close to being so man-and-movie-dominant as Heath Ledger, or even solid enough that making such comparisons will be rendered fruitless. However, I am enjoying these rumours he's going to play some part in Batman V Superman. Not the theories he's really Robin - that's naff at best, utterly desperate at worst - but that Bruce Wayne is haunted by the death of one of his Boy Wonders (Jason Todd, surely) at the hands of the Clown Prince of Crime, seen in flashback in Dawn Of Justice, giving us our first in-cinema look at Leto in character. Not only does this provide a strong link to Suicide Squad (a movie I'm more optimistic about), it acts as a key, character-logical motivation for Batman to be so utterly downbeat. The dourness Affleck's portrayed thus far (he was practically moping in that first reveal shot) makes Bale's version of the Caped Crusader look like Adam West by comparison, but having it rooted in something personal is a much more appealing motivation rather than just because he lives in a "dark and gritty" world.
