6. The Costume
Many were unhappy with the almost Ben Reilly-esque design of Amazing Spider-Man's costume. It felt completely unnecessary, and although the idea of a young guy becoming Spidey and sewing multiple versions of what would eventually become his own costume was explained more in ASM than in the Raimi trilogy, to some it just didn't 'feel' like Spider-Man. Well almost in a bid to elicit a fanboy crowd-pop, the new trailer opens with a fading close-up of what emerges to be the classic red and blue webbed costume, albeit taking a page out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's use of Ultimate character designs and giving Ol'' Webhead some bigger eyes. It's something of a strange design being that the tonality of these new movies seems to be quite dark, yet larger eyes tend to evoke sympathy rather than tenacity, but perhaps that's the point, being the first film had its fair share of shoe-gazing and glum dialogue, and with its plethora of villains, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is aiming squarely for the summer blockbuster crown.
