Let's get this one out the way before we ramble on too long: Zac Efron is disgustingly handsome. Let it be known that the author - no matter how bald or unfit he may be - is not making a point about Efron being too good-looking out of jealousy, there's a serious point in here, honest. Similar to the manner in which Efron can be used to sell things to children is the way that he can be used to get the attention of ladies everywhere. If you go along with stereotypes, the sci-fi genre is not one which is often associated to have a fanbase outside of the laptop-lurking, glasses-wearing, video-gaming male; we all know that that's not exactly true, but movie producers like to keep these sort of things perpetuated, because...money. Efron therefore could be put in place in the movie as a highly effective marketing tool, one which cynics could quite easily say is simply to sell tickets to a female audience, after all, everybody knows sex sells. That's not to say that the original series was not guilty of similar tactics, given that George Lucas infamously convinced Carrie Fisher to go commando throughout filming, because "there's no underwear in space", and the whole gold bikini thing. But Efron being added to the cast has a frightening similarity to the inclusion of Hayden Christensen in the prequel trilogy; he's one who would appear to be most obviously in the movie because he has a pretty face. Ideally, the bravest and most interesting way to overcome this challenge, and effectively pull an enormous prank on all the cynical folk waiting for a perfectly presented Efron, would be to have him play a hideously offensive-looking alien character. We're talking about full on tentacles, proboscis, and a tendency to eat space bunnies. Something that will totally put anyone off melting in his presence, and force them to take his performance through a cloak of disgustitude for what it is. We want our galaxy far, far away to be filled with interesting and widely ranged in appearance, not all human, and not all sickeningly gorgeous to behold.
