6 Things New To Netflix This Week (Feb 1)

4. Food Inc.

Meat lovers, look away now. Robert Kenner's challenge documentary Food, Inc. is here and it could upset you. The main arguments are that the manufacturing of the three most popular meats - chicken, beef and pork - are inhumane and unsustainable, and use talking heads from the world of US politics and farming to back up its claims. At the same time, global producers such as Smithfield Foods, Perdue Farms and the ever-controversial Monsanto Company find their way into the director's crosshairs. It's not all industry bashing though, as it does offer some simple solutions on how the human race can reduce its environmental impact. You could save the planet by eating less, or to put it another way, not having a double burger. Food, Inc. was nominated for the Best Documentary at the 2009 Academy Awards, eventually losing out to the story of Dolphin hunting in Japan, The Cove, so take a bite out of it on Netflix now.
