Shout stop if you think you've seen this before... A young girl is artificially inseminated by mistake, and it turns out she's carrying the baby of her former teenage crush who now happens to be her boss, a married former playboy and current cancer survivor. No? Okay. South American TV shows have a lot to answer for because they lap this kind of twisted stuff up. Jane the Virgin is loosely based on and heavily parodies the Venezuelan soap opera Juana La Virgen. Gina Rodriquez plays the lead, a religious twenty-something who, rather than battling the US healthcare system for what you can bet would be an eye-watering amount of compensation, decides to stay true to her beliefs and face the world every day. Fair play. Rodriguez won Best Actress at the Golden Globes last year, and the show has been renewed for a third season. Praise be! Netflix gives birth to Jane the Virgin on March 22nd.
