Here's proof that to be a good scary movie you don't have to have a big budget. The Ouija Experiment was made for just under £1,000 and when you watch it, you'll know exactly where the money went... Snacks for the crew. But if the idea of building suspense in an enclosed space is acceptable for JJ Abrams and his Cloverfield sequel, surely good enough for a couple of entrepreneurs with a video camera? Absolutely, as long as you reset your perceptions of what a horror film should look like. Based on true events, The Ouija Experiment was released independently without the support of a film studio, which could have gone one of two ways. Luckily, this is the era of social media, where something can go viral in less time than it takes to tour, say, the Warner Bros lot. Check out The Ouija Experiment as it unfolds on Netflix from March 22nd.
