6 Things We Can Expect From Suicide Squad 2 With Gavin O'Connor As Director

2. Production To Be Fast-Tracked

Though O'Connor certainly knows what he's doing behind the camera, the decision to hire him may have also been a logistical one on Warner Bros' part.

It's been reported over and over that the studio wants to fast-track Suicide Squad 2, and bringing on O'Connor will allow them to do that with ease.

Besides the DC villain-fest, the director only has one other major movie on his schedule - The Accountant 2, which is in the works... over at Warner Bros.

This gives the studio the ability to say, "hey, just leave The Accountant alone for a bit and do Suicide Squad first", allowing O'Connor to make Suicide Squad 2 his next directorial effort, getting the film ready for a summer 2019 release date.

Incidentally, delaying The Accountant 2 would also give star Ben Affleck more time in the foreseeable future, since he would have presumably returned to star in the action sequel - did this factor into Warner Bros' decision too? Does the studio hope that by freeing up his schedule, he'd be more likely to devote more time to the role of Batman?

That's a possibility, but, admittedly, it feels like a long shot. Still, Suicide Squad 2 - directed by O'Connor - does lay the groundwork for something else Batfleck-related...
