Film Release: 5th August 2015

For Comic-Con 2015, Warner Bros. unveiled new looks of both Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad. The former was released online instantaneously, but the latter wasn't, meaning it was leaked before Hall H had emptied. This put immense pressure on the studio to release a proper, HD, non-murky version. Warner were incredibly reluctant, umming and ahhing for several days before finally putting the "First Look" online (they refused to legitimise it by calling it a trailer proper).

Now we've had two more trailers, why the studio were so hesitant is a little clearer - the dark and brooding tone of that first look is nothing like the more vibrant, off-kilter stylings of the rest of the marketing campaign.

This is the real dark side of the pre-pre-hype of Comic-Con trailers, where showing a few minutes of footage to fans is really showing it to the entire world. Expect other studios to learn from Warner's mistakes and, in future, balance their sneaks a little more between the convention itself and online.
