6 Ups & 7 Downs From Independence Day: Resurgence
3. The Set-Pieces Are Trashy Fun
When it comes to action, it's hard to argue with Resurgence's success: as mentioned, Emmerich milks the CGI-fueled mayhem for all it's worth, and there are several sustained sequences that have undeniable impact and entertainment value.
Yes, it's all stakes-free nonsense for the most part, but it's fun as hell, and while not masterpieces of tension, these scenes certainly hit the targets they're aiming for.
Thankfully the movie is crammed with action to try and compensate for everything that doesn't work, and in that regard it's hard to argue that the film succeeds.
