6 Ups & 7 Downs From Independence Day: Resurgence
2. It Blows Several Potentially Iconic Moments
The original Independence Day is such an iconic movie that this one naturally had a lot to live up to. Sadly, while there are several epic moments that tease that same level of awesomeness, Emmerich mostly rushes through them rather than milk the melodrama for all it's worth.
One character's death in particular should have been a huge moment in the movie, but it's practically glossed over in a flash and barely mentioned for the rest of the movie, which both at the time and in retrospect seems totally ridiculous.
No, there's nothing even remotely close to the unforgettable rallying speech of the original movie, so if you're hoping for something that captures that same feeling, you might be disappointed.
