6 Ways To Ace A Captain Planet Movie

3. Don't Make The White Guy The Leader

The original Planeteers were unique in that the de facto leader of the group was the black guy. This needs to continue to keep the spirit of the show in tact. The leader's position could be changed so that an Asian woman could lead the group, or really any type of person of color. At the very least, don't make it be the bland-faced white guy from the Bronx.

The White Male will lead 90% of the movies coming out alongside this thing. With Ghost in the Shell's whitewashing controversy still fresh on everyone's mind and The Great Wall and live-action Mulan reboot all undergoing the white savior trope, Captain Planet would stand out as the woke movie. As well it should. In the era of Jordan Peele movies and Crazy Rich Asians a film geared directly toward the liberal crowd can't afford to fall victim to the white male savior.

While Kwame was the leader of the original crew, there's inspiration for a leader for the new group from several sources. You could base the new team's lead on real life activists like Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teen who raised the ire of Europe's climate change deniers; Alexandria VillaseƱor, the asthmatic Hispanic teen who founded the organization Earth Uprising; or Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, the teen of Aztec descent who spoke before the UN on the subject of climate change when he was only 15-years-old.
