60. Amelie (2001) - Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Amelie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love Amelie is a great little movie. It's a light-hearted (but with dark overtones) sugar rush of a movie about a young French women called Amelie (Audrey Tautou) who finds her lot in life. She is to make people happy. I dunno what it is about movies set in Paris, but I can't get enough of them. Although the Paris portrayed in this picture is not quite the real Paris with it's super clean streets and colourful imagery but who cares? This is the movie's version of Paris, the one which we prefer to see in our cinema. With Amelie, Jeunet had finally shown what his visual talents could produce after the stunning to look at but ultimately hollow Delicatessen and Alien Resurrection. Amelie's a hard movie to talk about because nothing happens but at the same time so much happens. It's a movie about moments, there is something magical about Amelie, a movie that takes you straight into her world and makes you forget what's going on in your own life. Amelie is a breath of fresh air and is one of the most feel good films on this list. A fantastic film.
