6. The Shape Of Water

The Acclaim: The best film ever made about a woman having sex with a fish monster, Guillermo del Toro's fantastical romantic drama received praise for, well, just about everything. Not content to stop there, it even went on to win four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Why Everyone Will Hate It: To be fair, the backlash against this movie has already started, and did so almost immediately after it won the Best Picture Oscar.

Considering how the film was a highly unconventional choice for the flagship award, it's easy to imagine film buffs en masse looking back on The Shape of Water in a decade and thinking, "How did THAT win Best Picture?"

After all, it's an intensely stylish piece of filmmaking, though the emotion doesn't quite reach the high mark it needs to.

Furthermore, if the planned Best Popular Film Oscar becomes a consistent mainstay in the coming years, some may feel that The Shape of Water would've been better served in that category rather than the same award won by the likes of The Godfather, Lawrence of Arabia, 12 Years A Slave and so on.
